KLCC Microbrew Festival Information

In my last post, I mentioned that Oakshire is brewing a collaboration ale for the upcoming KLCC Microbrew Festival. This got me thinking. I did a quick check of my previous posts and sure enough, I have yet to write anything about the upcoming festival.

KLCC is a public radio station here in Eugene. The Microbrew Festival is the station’s largest fundraising event of the year. In addition to beers from 50+ breweries, the festival also features live music, a homebrew competition and a cd/record sale. This year’s festival takes place February 12th and 13th from 5-11pm at the Lane Events Center Exhibit Hall. Admission to the event is $12.00, which includes a 6oz. souvenir glass. Tickets are $1.00 each and good for a 3oz. sample.

So, not the most exciting list, especially considering the samples are an ounce shy of what you get at most other fests. It looks like a lot of standard brews and a smattering of new releases and current seasonals. Still, it will be my first chance to try a few new beers including Hopworks’ Secession CDA and Widmer’s Deadlift IIPA.

I am also looking forward to the Collaboration Ale. All Eugene area breweries and several others are bringing their Belgian Style Cascadian Dark Rye Ale interpretation, although only Ninkasi, High Street and Brewer’s Union Local 180 have it listed.

Additional information on the KLCC Microbrew Festival can be found HERE on the station’s website. They are still looking for volunteers for the late shift Saturday night; the sign-up form is also on their site.

Cheers!
Kevin

  • So, not the most exciting list,…

Really? I’m pretty excited by it. For one thing, it looks to be the debut of Widmer’s double IPA. Also, for someone in the North Willamette Valley, there’s lots of stuff I haven’t tried. Sadly, I’ll be out of town that weekend. You must do double duty on the tasting end.

  • By “not the most exciting list,” I meant that most of the brews are either year-round or season-long offering and most are availble at a bottle shop or market. ECB’s Track Town Brown and Ninkasi’s Unconventional were the only two that jumped out at me that may not be available again.

Don’t get wrong, I plan on having a great time at the fest and I’ll be sure to drink enough for the both of us.

Deadlift definitely has me excited, assuming it is brewed in time and it wasn’t put on the list before the power outage. And I can see your point about the lineup being more attractive to Portlanders who may not have ready access to some of the mid-valley brews.

    Cheers!
    Kevin
