Beer and Coding in Eugene’s Penultimate Beer Survey
Section 1 – Getting to Know You
1. Hello, my name is Matt Van Wyk.
2. I get my paycheck from Oakshire Brewing.
3. I have been working there for 6 months.
4. My official title is Brewmaster.
5. Before working their, I was the brewmaster at Flossmoor Station in Flossmoor IL.
6. My old stomping grounds are Chicagoland. 4 different breweries. Glen Ellyn, Two Brothers, Firehouse, Flossmoor Station.
7. When it comes to sports, I would sacrifice a goat to ensure a victory for my team, the Cubs.
8. My stupid human trick is hmmmmm…..
9. My arch-nemesis is I love everyone!
10. If a movie about my life were made, my character would be played by Morgan Freeman. smooooothh……
Although, I don’t know if they could make him look like me????
Section 2 – All About Beer
11. I got my start if craft brewing by assisting at Glen Ellyn Brewery in Glen Ellyn IL.
12. The last beer I drank was Black IPA fresh hop beer from the fermenter at Oakshire.
13. I drank it while I was working.
14. When I head down to the river for the day, I fill the ice chest with Dale’s Pale Ale or Caldera IPA.
15. Around the brewery, it makes me cringe when I hear “What do you do all day? Sit around and drink beer?”
16. If by some means; perhaps the result of a bet that went too far; I was forced to live out the remainder of my days drinking only one style of beer, it would be Rodenbach.
17. If I could serve God any one beer that I am responsible for, it would be De Zuidentrein Frambozenbier.
18. If I could serve God any one beer that I had no hand in creating, it would be Cantillon Gueze. Thank you for providing wild yeast to our world.
19. The beer I created which is embarrassing enough that if given the chance, I would bury in a New Mexico landfill; alongside all those unsold copies of E.T. for the Atari 2600 is Cherry Wheat.
20. For people who are interested in working in the craft beer industry, my nugget of wisdom is learn all you can as fast as you can and be ready to work really hard for little money, but also be ready for a rewarding and fulfilling career that is actually a lot of fun to be involved in.

cool. There’s no way even something as delicious as cherries can save wheat beer.
So… do you need an assistant or anything? I could get used to enjoying a beer from the source at the office. My qualifications include quaffing and expert imbibing.
An expert imbiber would have come up with a better plan to break into a restaurant and steal their bagels and lox.
I had my first Gueze last summer. Crazy, tart flavor.
