Here is my collected list of beer predictions for 2010. At the end of the year, we will take a look back and see which ones actually manifested, which ones were wishful thinking and which ones were just needless worrying.

Kevin – Beer and Coding in Eugene
- Black IPAs/Cascadian Darks follow Big NW Reds as the next style “NW” style beer.
- Scotch Ales become the trendy beer for 2010, then die back down by the end of the year.
- In 2010, the Belgian craze changes and NW brewers start using Belgian yeast on non-traditional Belgian style beers.
- 2010 will be the year of small beers.
Dr. Wort – Dr. Wort’s Buzz-erk Beer Blog
National Predictions
- Increase in beer dinners and gastro pubs.
- More uninspired barrel-aged beers.
- The continued rise of sour beers.
- The continued futile exploration of standard beers.
- It’s America; more high alcohol beers.
- A fleeting appearance of the Beer Cocktail.
- More consolidation in the beer industry, resulting in more boring offering.
Northwest Predictions
- The slow and embarrassing death of the IPA.
- A slow increase in Belgian beers, Upright leading the charge.
- No ground-breaking local lagers.
- SOSDD (same ol’ shit, different day).
- Beer and food pairing, if the right audience can e found.
- A second shameless anniversary party for a PDX blog.
- McMenamin’s bottling a series of premium beers.
